The Castles Challenge Sprint Triathlon race begins with a 750m sea swim, then a 20km out & back bike course, followed by a 5km run along the coastal track.
Race registration, transition and race finish are on the cricket pitch at the foot of Bamburgh Castle & there will be food, drinks & music throughout the day.
This Sprint Triathlon was introduced as a new race in 2012 as part of the Castle Challenge Series, with first places going to Tim Don and Emma Pearson.
The setting of this race is simply spectacular! This is a race you’ll not want to miss!
750 metres. The swim course commences with a beach start before entering the water for 1 lap of the course.
There will be a water safety team consisting of kayaks and rescue boats and we are fortunate enough to also have an RNLI inshore lifeboat attend, so you’ll be in safe hands!
The run up the beach to Transition will be less than 300 metres based on the tide on the day of the event.
20km. This is a beautiful bike course that is a simple out and back route from Bamburgh that heads around Budle Bay to a marshalled turnaround point at 10km, then returns back along the same route.
5km. Just like the bike course, this is a simple out & back run course that heads along the cliffs towards Budle Bay overlooking the beautiful sandy beaches before returning back to the cricket pitch and into the finish where you can finally relax!
